Early Childhood Intervention Supports (under 7 years)
Early intervention and prevention are the building blocks for improved wellbeing later in life. To support social and emotional development in children, I take a child-centred and family-focussed approach. Being child-centred means I focus on the whole-child. Being family-focussed means I also support the relationships and wellbeing of the whole family. I value families as experts in their own lives and see our relationship as a partnership to achieve the best outcomes for your child. I can also work collaboratively with other therapists to facilitate a 'team around the child' approach.
As an accredited Tuning into Kids facilitator, I can support you to become an Emotion Coaching parent/carer. Emotion coaching is shown to lead to positive outcomes including strengthened parent-child relationships and improved emotional competence in children. These skills are proven to be particularly effective for children with clinical level emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our therapy intervention can also draw on proven skills and strategies to support your shy or anxious child to build brave behaviours, face fears and develop resilience.

Cool Kids
Cool Kids was developed by Macquarie University in 1993 and has undergone continual scientific evaluation and development to include the latest understanding of anxiety and its treatment.

I am an accredited provider of the following programs:

    •    Cool Little Kids (3 - 6 years)
    •    Cool Kids (7 - 12 years)
    •    Cool Kids - Autism Spectrum Adaptation (7 - 17 years)
    •    Chilled (13 - 17 years)
COOL LITTLE KIDS (3 - 6 years)
The Cool Little Kids program is an early intervention program targeted at parents of 3 to 6 year old children who exhibit excessive shyness or anxiety. Cool Little Kids equips parents with both knowledge and practical skills and tips on how to help their child manage and overcome anxiety.

Topics include:

· Understanding anxiety and shyness in preschool children
· Causes and risk factors for child anxiety
· Helpful and unhelpful ways of responding to anxiety in children
· Skills and strategies to help your child build brave behaviours and face fears
· Dealing with setbacks and difficulties
· How to maintain progress after the program ends
COOL KIDS (7 - 12 years)
The Cool Kids Anxiety Program is a structured 10 session program run over a minimum of 10 weeks that teaches children and their parents/carers how to better manage a child's anxiety. The Program is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and involves the participation of children and parents, and focuses on teaching practical skills.

Topics include:

· Learning about anxiety
· Learning to think realistically
· Parenting an anxious child
· Facing fears using stepladders
· Learning coping skills such as assertiveness of problem solving
COOL KIDS - an Autism Spectrum Adaptation
The original Cool Kids program has been adapted to suit the learning style of anxious children who also have Autism. The program focuses on teaching children, teens and their parents skills to manage anxiety in everyday situations.

Topics include:

· Understanding anxiety
· Parenting strategies that encourage brave behaviour
· Identifying and using helpful (realistic) thoughts
· Facing fears, building independence and increasing confidence through stepladders (gradual exposure)

Social skills are also touched on in the program as they are often a crucial part of building a child's confidence, however, parents/carers should note that social skills are not the primary focus of the program.
CHILLED (13 - 17 years)
Chilled is a structured skills based program that teaches teens how to better manage anxiety. Results show that most young people who complete this program experience significant improvements, with decreases in worry, fear, family distress and life interference. Parents/ carers take the role of mentor and are provided with support and resources to support their teen to use the skills they learn.

Topics include:

· Learning about feelings and anxiety
· Building confidence and independence
· Fighting fear by facing fear
· Learning to think realistically
· Building confidence, problem solving and other coping skills
